What is an arrest warrant?
An arrest warrant is the written order of a judge to arrest a person who is suspected of a serious offence and to bring them into pre-trial detention (Untersuchungshaft). The warrant is applied for by the public prosecutor’s office. There are several types of warrant: investigative warrant, security warrant, enforcement warrant and the European Arrest Warrant.
How we proceed
We immediately examine the conditions of the warrant (grounds for detention, suspicion, proportionality), apply for the warrant to be set aside or suspended, and represent you at the custody review (Haftprüfung). Where appropriate, we work towards bail or release subject to conditions.
